Michael Lennicx was born and
raised on the picturesque Alabama Gulf Coast, famous for its beautiful white
sand beaches, colorful rednecks, and a migratory abundance of retirees. His
loving and supportive family still resides there and match none of the aforementioned
locale descriptions.
He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Birmingham-Southern College
in 1997, which was accompanied by a boatload of quintessential life experiences
and enduring friendships.
Upon arriving in New York City in early 1999, his skill set immediately proved beneficial in the animation world. He led design on Bill Cosby's 2 time EMMY award winning Nickelodeon production "Little Bill," co-designed the characters for Nick Jr's "Backyardigans," and art directed Spike TV's controversial slack jawed animated series "This Just In!" (which reflected none of his personal views), just to name a few.
He has exhibited his paintings in several group shows including: JVC Jazz Fest NYC 2002, Humane USA's Celebrity Gala 2002, and showed among the likes of Warhol and Rauschenberg in 2003 at Max's Kansas City's "Tribute to Mickey Ruskin." His commissions and collectors include: Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver / St. John's Charity, Musikube/Maverick Records/Virgin/Alanis Morissette, Yael Danieli, and the United Nations Education Committee, among others.
Michael has also illustrated two published children's books: "Little Bill's Happy Valentine's Day" (with friend and co-worker Etsu Kahata), and "Little Bill's Big Day at School."
His lifelong ambition of creating a completely original, groundbreaking solo painting/multimedia exhibition is an approaching reality. "Pinwheels" are highly detailed kinetic paintings that rotate two dimensionally revealing bizarre narratives with music accompaniment. The completed exhibition is scheduled to make its gallery debut in Fall 2005.
Michael currently resides in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. He patiently continues to silently carve out the body of work for the Pinwheel series. He also plays guitar, sings, and writes music and lyrics with the band Funkle.
Michael has a busy schedule, but frequently accepts freelance work and commissions. Serious inquiries should proceed to contact.
